Creating a fantasy scene in your kid's bedroom
Posted Tuesday, January 31, 2006 1:16:52 PM by Rose Martins

Kids bedding can be a dream come true for a child. The kid's bedding available today scopes a variety of designs from whatever the latest craze is on television and the movie theatre, to cars, sports, army camouflage, fairies, hearts and some really dreamy scenes. Kid beddingA kid's bedroom can be transformed into a real fun adventure scene.

The walls and ceiling of the kid's room can be painted and decorated to match the bedding, thereby creating a whole little fantasy world for your kid. The great thing about bedding for kids, is that you don't need to spend a fortune.

There are a lot of discount linen stores that sell a myriad of different designs of kid's bedding at very affordable prices. If your kid has twin beds in their room, or if two kids share one room, it's not always necessary to buy them identical bedding.

Each kid can have the design of their choice but the bedding can match in terms of colour or complimentary colours. This will also work. Bedding sets mean a sheet, a pillow case, a duvet cover and sometimes also a bed frill, a summer blanket and a continental pillow case. Sets vary from shop to shop, and from company to company.

New designs are being released continuously but the sizes of kids bedding is generally standardized.

Tulsa Jail, agency in standoff
Posted Sunday, January 14, 2007 3:16:40 PM by Blog57 Team
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office has refused to allow state juvenile system investigators into the Tulsa Jail and denied their requests for records. The denial came despite a letter by Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson's office that says the Office of Juvenile System Oversight has the authority to investigate the treatment of juveniles in county jails. Undersheriff Brian Edwards said the agency has no authority over the jail and that investigators had requested confidential medical records. Janice Hendryx, the director of the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth, said an investigator for the agency visited the jail without advance notice Monday. The Office of Juvenile System Oversight is a division of the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth, a state agency....

A shared experience

Nestled in snow-covered pines at 7,000 feet in the Sierra, the Clair Tappaan Lodge welcomes families and folks who share a sense of adventure. The key word here is share because the lodge, owned by the Sierra Club, is a community experience. Meals are shared, each guest is responsible for a simple daily kitchen chore, and evenings are spent in one of two community rooms. After hearing about the lodge for years, our family of four (two adults, two kids) decided to rendezvous there with another family (two adults, one teenager) for some wintertime R&R. If you've got kids, you know that stands for recreation and wrangling, but at this lodge, it's worth it. Comfort zone Upon seeing our group room -- three stacks of three-bed-high bunk beds for a total of nine beds in a small room -- our thoughts drifted to Japan's "capsule" hotels....

Cheers to you, Calgary

Tiny faces lit up across Calgary yesterday as Santa's helpers delivered truckloads of gifts to families in need of Christmas cheer. At one home, a mother clutching her 18-month-old daughter watched in amazement as we dropped off boxes of wrapped goodies. Inside, the family's sparse one-bedroom basement suite in the northeast tells of their struggle to make ends meet. Apart from two worn couches, an aging crib, a modest kitchen table and rundown appliances, their home is empty. The parents didn't even have a bed until yesterday, when a queen-size mattress and base was given to them by a generous stranger who stepped up to fulfil their Christmas wishlist through the Calgary Sun's 24th annual Adopt-a-Family program. "This is a dream for me," said the mother, tears welling in her eyes....

Helping the House of Hope

Edmonton entrepreneur Carissa Reiniger has had her share of exotic getaways at resorts and on cruise ships. But her recent trip to Africa was the most exotic and rewarding of her young life. Through her business development company, Silver Lining Ltd., Reiniger led a 10-day trip called Project Aware to help an orphanage near the town of Kasese, Uganda. "It was one of the most phenomenal things I've ever done," said Reiniger, 24, who went on the charity mission last month with nine other young professionals, most of whom are from Edmonton or Toronto, since her firm has offices in both cities. This was no Club Med holiday. They paid $3,000 each to put up with bugs, filth and bad food but came away with a better feeling than having spent 10 days at a Caribbean resort....

Aaron Rents, Inc., the nation's leader in the rental, sales and lease ownership, specialty retailing and rental of residential and office furniture, consumer electronics, home appliances and accessories, today announced the donation of ten computers and printers to Dream House for Medically Fragile Children of Lilburn, Georgia. The donation was made with the assistance of Aaron's vendor New Age, a distributor of computer products and more. According to Dream House Founder and CEO Laura Moore, the computers are a much-needed addition to the organization's offices. ``Our 11 staff members have been using systems that have been donated in bits and pieces and we sometimes have trouble communicating because not all programs run on all of our computers. We are so grateful for this donation from Aaron's because it will allow all the staff members to communicate quickly and effectively so that we can help our children and our families that much faster.'' Aaron's Sales & Lease Ownership President Ken Butler said Aaron's is humbled to assist such a worthy cause....

Better sleep through makeovers
Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 7:23:13 AM by Blog57 Team
Seventy-six percent of Americans have trouble sleeping, according to a poll conducted last year by the National Sleep Foundation. It's no surprise, then, that Hollandia International, a European luxury-bed company, decided to open its first U.S. showroom last month, at Philadelphia's Marketplace Design Center. With so many sleep-deprived people out there, the company is betting that more than a few will be willing to shell out $10,000 or more for one of its mechanized, massaging "sleep systems." But it turns out you don't need to spend five figures to get a good night's sleep. What you really need, the experts say, is a properly furnished and decorated bedroom. Light levels, colors, the art on your walls, the pattern on your bedding, what you keep in the room -- and what's not in there -- can make all the difference between a wakeful night and a restful one....

Bucks bikers ride for homeless

When Linda Hartzell moved to Bucks County from California, she was shocked to learn there was a homeless shelter in Levittown. Now, Hartzell, the shelter's coordinator and spokesperson, is equally surprised at how generous Bucks residents are especially the Bucks County Harley Owners Group. The Bucks HOG and Brian's Harley-Davidson store sponsored the 13th annual Ride to Benefit the American Red Cross Homeless Shelter on Saturday, and more than 70 bikers donated blankets, pillows and other linens to the shelter's residents. The HOG also donated almost $2,000 in retail gift cards, a number that will be matched by the Red Cross' national organization. A catered hot lunch, provided by Brian's Harley-Davidson and McCafferty Ford, was served in the shelter's cafeteria....
